Destruction Island Light Station - 1892

Lighthouse Access

Landings are made at this station from ship's boats. All materials and supplies are hoisted out of the boats by derrick and hoisting engine and landed on platform built on rock ledges above high water.

 

 

 

From platform, materials are conveyed in cars which are hauled up inclined tramway by hoisting engine to top of bank, from there tramway is on slight grade down to tower and fog-signal. All materials for tower, inc. heavy iron casing was landed thus.
