Itinerary

We've revamped the Maine tour! This year we'll be going all the way up to West Quoddy lighthouse and will cross into Canada to see the Mulholland and Head Harbour (aka East Quoddy) lighthouses - so bring your passport!

October 9, 2010

BANGOR
Arrive at the Bangor International Airport (BGR). When you arrive at the airport, a courtesy shuttle will transport you to the hotel. We will have our Welcome Dinner that evening at the hotel.

October 10, 2010

BANGOR – EAST / WEST QUODDY
Make sure you have your U.S. Passport this day. From the hotel we will proceed across the border into Canada to see the East Quoddy Head Lighthouse and have a picnic lunch at Roosevelt Campobello Park. From there we will proceed to Mulholland Light for a photo op where we will also be able to view the Lubec Channel Lighthouse. After crossing back into the U.S., we will tour West Quoddy Head and visit the eastern most lighthouse gift shop in the U.S.! From here, we will proceed south along the coast to Bar Harbor where we will spend the night. Dinner enroute.

October 11, 2010

BAR HARBOR
After breakfast, the group will proceed to the Acadia National Park for a coach tour through the park and up to Cadillac Mountain for fantastic views of Bar Harbor. That afternoon, the group will head to the harbor to board a vessel for a cruise to see the lights of Bar Harbor: Bear Island, Winter Harbor (Mark Island), and Egg Rock Lighthouses. Following this, the group will drive south for a photo opportunity of the Bass Harbor Lighthouse and then back to our hotel for the evening, dinner enroute.

October 12, 2010

BAR HARBOR - ROCKLAND
After breakfast, we will board the coach for Rockland. Upon arrival, we’ll visit the Maine Lighthouse Museum and then travel a short distance to the Owl’s Head Lighthouse for a tour and a picnic lunch. Following this, we will proceed to the new headquarters of the American Lighthouse Foundation in downtown Rockland and spend some free time there. Next the group will travel to Rockland Harbor for a lovely walk to the beautifully restored Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse for a tour. Dinner and lodging will be in Rockland this evening.

October 13, 2010

ROCKLAND
Today we’ll travel to Rockland Harbor where we’ll board a chartered vessel for a half day cruise around Penobscot Bay. On this leg of the journey we’ll pass the Rockland Breakwater, Indian Island, Grindle Point, Dice Head, Pumpkin Island, Eagle Island, Mark Island, Goose Rocks, Brown’s Head and Owl’s Head Lighthouses and enjoy lunch aboard. Afterward, we’ll return to the hotel for free time and have dinner later that evening at a nearby restaurant.

ROCKLAND – BOOTHBAY HARBOR
After breakfast, we depart for Boothbay Harbor. On the way, we’ll stop off at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse for a tour. Upon arrival in Boothbay Harbor, the group will enjoy lunch and shopping on their own in this quaint New England Village. Next, we will visit Hendrick’s Head Lighthouse for a special tour, the summer home of a Society member. Lodging and dinner will be in Boothbay Harbor this evening.

October 15, 2010

BOOTHBAY HARBOR - PORTLAND
We’ll start the day by boarding a vessel for a half-day cruise of lighthouses where we’ll see Burnt Island, Ram Island, Cuckolds and Seguin Island Lighthouses. Then the vessel will head up the lovely Kennebec River to pass the lighthouses of Pond Island, Perkins Island, Squirrel Point and the Doubling Point Range Lights. This cruise passes through picturesque inland waterways where we’ve often observed bald eagles, herons, osprey and occasionally seals. A picnic lunch will be served aboard. On our way back to Portland, we’ll be stopping off for a tour at the Marshall Point Lighthouse. Upon arrival in Portland, we will check in to our hotel and have dinner at a local restaurant.

October 16, 2010

PORTLAND
Today we will show you Portland’s best with plenty of climbing to be had! After breakfast, we’ll proceed to the Cape Elizabeth Twin Tower Light Station for a specially arranged tour. Then off to the iconic Portland Head Lighthouse for a special tour and a picnic lunch. Following this, we’ll head off for tours of Spring Point Ledge and the Portland Breakwater Lighthouse. Next, we’ll proceed to the Portland Observatory. Built in 1807, it is the last surviving maritime signal tower in the United States. Our farewell dinner will be in the historic waterfront district of Portland.
