Itinerary
Aloha! The US Lighthouse Society’s Lighthouses and Leis Tour will combine freestyle cruising, the sights and sounds of Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island and an opportunity to view all of the lighthouses of Hawaii. Spend 7 nights aboard the Pride of America and 4 nights in Honolulu while visiting some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Sign up for this one quickly, it will sell out early! Please note special registration policy for this tour only described below.
Our Hawaiian holiday will begin with a welcome dinner at our hotel in Honolulu followed by a free morning to catch a wave before transferring to Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America to begin a seven day cruise around the islands. Settle into your stateroom with its floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening to your private balcony – perfect for whale watching, witnessing Kilauea Volcano or taking in the dramatic views of the Napali Coast. You will cruise paradise in style, with 14 restaurants and nine bars and lounges. Our first port of call will be Kahului on the island of Maui. The ship will spend the better part of two days in this port which will give you plenty of time for your individual shore excursions to Haleakala Crater, the Road to Hana or just days on the beach. Our group will take a short excursion to view the Lahaina Harbor and Lighthouse and also climb aboard a helicopter, not all at once, for an exciting ride across west Maui to Molokai to get a view from the air of the rarely seen Kaluapapa Lighthouse.
Our next destination is the Big Island of Hawaii with stops at both Hilo and Kona. While in Hilo we will take a shore excursion to Volcanoes National Park and pass by the desolate Cape Kumukahi Lighthouse. Continuing around the island to the Kona Coast, you can take optional shore excursions to the rainforest, waterfalls, coastline or swim with the dolphins. The beautiful island of Kaua’i and the port of Nawiliwili are next on the agenda with a group shore tour to the Nawiliwili Lighthouse and Kilauea Lighthouse. We will then continue on for a boat tour of the magnificent Napali Coast. We will be on Kaua’i for two days, giving you enough time to take one of the many shore excursions on your own, including a trip to the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon.
The cruise portion of our tour ends back in Honolulu early in the morning, giving us plenty of time for the group to tour Pearl Harbor and Honoloulu. Included in this tour are the many sights of Honolulu and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) in addition to the USS Arizona tour at Pearl Harbor. That evening we will check back into our hotel to prepare for several more days of touring, this time on Oahu. Our first major challenge the next day will be a two mile (round trip) group hike up to the Makapu’u Lighthouse which houses a massive hyperradiant lens. Taking a well deserved rest after the hike, we will head for a tour of Oahu’s North Shore and some of the most famous surfing and swimming beaches in the world. We will include a stop at Motsumoto’s Grocery Store, home of the best Hawaiian shaved ice anywhere! Our final tour day will begin with a visit to Diamond Head Lighthouse followed by a climb to the top of Diamond Head for some stunning coastal views. This will be followed
by a drive out to the last lighthouse on the tour, Barber Point Lighthouse. We will return to the hotel for some free time before our special “Lighthouses & Leis” aloha dinner where we will reflect on this once in a lifetime adventure in paradise!
