Itinerary

Come join us on the Society’s first ever Lake Ontario Circle Tour as we visit 40 lighthouses around Lake Ontario and the Thousand Islands region in both the United States and Canada. Beginning and ending in Buffalo our lighthouse journeys will be augmented by a night at magnificent Niagara Falls and a free day to explore the exciting city of Toronto.

Our tour begins with a welcome dinner at our hotel near the Buffalo Airport. The first full day of touring begins with views of the lighthouses in the Buffalo area including South Buffalo, North Breakwater (Bottle Light), Buffalo Harbor, Buffalo Intake Crib, Buffalo Main and Horseshoe Reef (ruins). On our way north we will stop for a photo of the Grand Island Lighthouse and then spend the afternoon and evening overlooking beautiful Niagara Falls. Heading into Ontario the next day (bring your passport), we will first view the lighthouse at Port Dalhousie followed by the Canal Main Light and Canal Pier Lighthouses near Burlington.
Continuing east we will make a quick stop at the Toronto East Entrance Outer and Inner and the Queen’s Wharf Lighthouses. After checking into our hotel in Toronto, we will take a dinner cruise around Toronto Harbor to include excellent views of the Toronto Harbor and Gibralter Lighthouses. The next day will be a day on your own to see the sights of Toronto including the CN Tower, Casa Loma, Kensington Market, Hockey Hall of Fame, St James’ and St Michael’s Cathedrals, Ontario Science Centre, Royal Ontario Museum or any one of many other exciting attractions in what has been called the “New York City of Canada.”

Leaving Toronto behind, our tour continues with stops at the Cobourg East Pier Head, Presque Point, Point Petre and False Duck Island (replica) Lighthouses. We will spend the night in Kingston, Ontario. We will tour the eastern end of Lake Ontario and the Thousand Islands area by boat the next day as we view Tibbets Point, Charity Shoal, Gallo Island, Pigeon Island, Knapp Point and Nine Mile Point Lighthouses. Following the cruise we will cross back into the United States and spend the night in Alexandria Bay. Another boat cruise will highlight the following day as we venture further into the Thousand Islands for excellent views of Rock Island, Sunken Rock, Sister’s Island, and Crossover Island. After the cruise we will travel a short distance north and tour the Ogdensburg Harbor Lighthouse. After spending a second night in Alexandria Bay we will travel along the southern shore of the lake visiting Cape Vincent Breakwater, Selkirk, Oswego West Pierhead, Old Sodus and Outer Sodus Lighthouses along the way. As our journey starts to wind down, we will spend the night near Rochester. Our final full day of touring begins with a tour of the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse followed by a photo op of the Braddock Point Lighthouse and a tour of the Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse. After a stop at the Olcott Lighthouse replica, we will visit the last lighthouse on our tour at Fort Niagara, where we will also get photos across the river of the Niagara River Front and Rear Range Lights.

Our extensive tour of the lighthouse of Lake Ontario and the 1000 Islands ends with our traditional Farewell Dinner at our hotel in Buffalo.
